Sarabi was the happiest lioness in the entire world. She had a wonderful and handsome mate, and a beautiful young son. The pride she called home was doing very well recently, and everyone seemed to be having cubs. As for the lands themselves they were green was life and all of the herd animals and other predators were faring well. It was a nice moment for her to relax and contemplate the future. The Queen knew that it was almost time for her season to come around again and now was a good time to contemplate having more cubs. She knew that her mate was a bit weary about having multiple cubs thanks to his own upbringing. Though she knew he would never mistreat his cubs, let alone do what Ahadi had done to poor Taka. Just thinking of that name made a chill run down her spine, and a soft huff escaped her mouth. Once upon a time she had loved him dearly much like she now loved Mufasa. When they were only cubs Taka had been the sweetest young male in the entire pride and most of the girls loved him. However, with his constant abuse, his personality changed, and now she feared him. Her eyes scanned the savannah absently as she waited for her mate to approach her and spend some quality time together. Being King and Queen was not easy on their relationship but they managed.

It was even harder now with a son to constantly look after. Which was why she had asked Sarafina to watch over Simba for a little while. Besides he wouldn’t even realize they were gone if he was with Nala. The two of them were so cute together. Sarabi smiled at the thought of her son and his best friend, knowing that someday they would be mates. Walking up the grassy hills the beautiful huntress scanned the horizon eagerly. These secret meetings often reminded the Queen of her teenaged years when they would have to do this just to be alone together. With that smile still in place the lioness fell back onto the grass and stared up at the sky.

Ever since she was a mere cub she had enjoyed star gazing. It was something she had done with her own father before he had passed away. The beauty of the night was getting to her, and she felt a tremor run down her spine. She loved him, and wanted him to show up already. Though with his duties sometimes Mufasa was late and she never held it against him. That just wasn’t in her nature to be mean to him, not with how much she loved him.

With the constant threat of roaming males, unhappy savannah dwellers, and basic day-to-day issues, there was never much time for a King to just be a lion. No time in the world for one lion to just lounge around and stay calm, to simply have fun as he used to in his younger days. Though, granted as the praised son of another King… his younger days still hadn’t been as luxurious as most other cubs, however… as the only time in his life he knew as being ‘relaxed’, it was the only thing he could compare to. In all honesty, the King didn’t mind the work-load. After all, he had been born and raised to do these things, and in his mind he couldn’t really imagine himself doing much else. No… instead, it was being away from his love that bothered him the most. Not being able to spend as much time with her, his son, or every single lion in this pride that he loved so dearly. Yes, in fact, this King was a good one. Every last lion in his pride was seen as an important part, and he’d always hated ‘banishing’ and ‘punishing’ them for the things they did that couldn’t be tolerated. Sometimes… the job of a King was… difficult to say the least. And not ever decision he made could have pleased everyone… and sometimes not anyone. Though… he knew what had to be done for the good, and preservation of the pride… and their way of life.

Days such as these came more often than not, and at times it was a little more than difficult to have to deal with everything all at once. In fact, if one were to ask this King any random question about some non-existent problem… I’m sure he would have an answer. After all… he spent every waking minute of the day thinking about solutions to problems that have not yet come to be. Unhealthy as it was… Mufasa saw it as a way to be prepared at all times. On another note, though, there was always one thing that could bring his day to a close in the most perfect of ways. And… in fact, it was time for that now. Having finished his final patrol, and already gotten the dusk report from that helpful little hornbill, the King had made his late butts way to their secret meeting spot. The best part of his day, and every time, he’d been at least a little late. Though… for some odd reason, Sarabi never did seem to mind it.

Tonight would be a good night… he could just feel it. After all, what night wasn’t when he spent it with the one lioness that could make him truly happy?(Until he would have a Daughter, if ever, he would never find another) Aside from anything that could happen during the course of a day, his Queen always knew how to make everything seem so… miniscule. In all honesty, he knew not how he would’ve ever been able to do his Kingly duties without her right by his side. Because the old saying was true, behind every great king… was an even greater Queen. And in fact he believed this to be true to a T. How she ever put up with him, and everything else that happened to this pride was beyond him. Though, Mufasa sure was glad she had.

Staying low to the ground as he made his way through the grasses, he finally made it to her. Watching her, watching the stars… all he’d ever hoped for since his younger years. What a lucky lion he had been indeed. Pouncing out of those tall grasses like a cub, wide smile to his features, the great king went to muzzle the Queen of his dreams. ”Stargazing without me, dear Sarabi?”

Sarabi’s eyes sparkled as she stared up into the vast sky above her. The many stories of her cub hood floating around in her mind. Remembering how her own father had once told her about the Great Kings of the past and how they were up above. At the time that story had only brought up even more questions that had never been answered. What she wanted to know was where did the other lions go when they passed on? The normal pride lions that made the territory safe and fed the Great Kings while they were still alive. Was her father up in the stars as a guardian? If not where was he? As her gaze drifted from star to star a soft smile crossed her beautiful features. The minutes drifted on like mere seconds and she felt her insides tighten with excitement as she smelled someone nearby. Turning slightly in the soft grass she felt a soft laugh escape her as she saw her massive mate pop out of nowhere, much like he had done when they were just cubs. Just looking at his handsome face made her heart clench almost painfully and the much smaller queen came to nuzzle her King. Yeah, it was hard to believe that Sarabi was small compared to someone since she was one of the most well built lionesses in the pride. Being around her beloved made her feel really small. A soft purr escaped her throat as she buried her head into his thick auburn mane. Inhaling his scent she curled her body near to his for a moment.

“How could I not honey tree? The sky is endlessly lit up tonight.. It is quite beautiful.”

Sarabi stated softly to her companion before she lightly stepped away to give him some room. Her ears flickered around absently as she debated on what to do next. Most likely her mate hadn’t eaten at all today nor yesterday because the pride had yet to really go on a hunt. With his large appetite and massive body stature to keep up, she figured it would be nice to engage in a hunt together? They used to do it a lot when they were teenagers. What’s so different now? Bumping her head gently against his shoulder in a playful gesture the Queen padded off a short ways.

“Would you like to go on a hunt with me Muffy?”

It was her nickname for him and no one else was allowed to use it. Not even their beloved son knew what she sometimes called him in private. That smile remained on her features as the dusky lioness stalked off into the savannah, knowing he would surely follow her. There was much to discuss and she was anxious about bringing up the subject of more cubs just yet. In a way she wanted to prolong it for as long as possible. The last things he wanted to do was get into a argument with him, not on a night like this.

Absently, she raised her head and looked around for a herd to stalk. Hoping it would be wildebeests or maybe zebra since those were his favorites.

“So my love, how was your day? Any trouble?”

Came her quiet question as she glanced back at him, that tender smile still in place.

As she had rolled herself over, allowing him to plop himself down unto the soft, green grasses below him, Mufasa finally felt that overwhelming sensation of relaxation. Indeed, it was just something a King could never take for granted anymore. When a young prince, any King would have been rather rowdy, perhaps even walking a little on the dangerous side, but when the lives of hundreds rested on your shoulders it could bring to you a certain… sense of responsibility. One that most males never really get to experience in their lifetimes, due to their heritage. Those, to this large King, were the lucky boys. Those who could hold onto a sense of their childhood without going through all the rest of the crap that he had to. Learning all sorts of new things from his father, all in preparation for transformation. Transforming from a cub, to a male, to a true king. Well, he HOPED he was a true king at this point in time. Though, if not, he was just glad he had himself a mate that would tell him otherwise. Though she was kind at heart, and oh-so-loving to all, Sarabi was indeed a strong lioness. She’d tell you a thing or two if she so pleased, that was for sure. Definitely the perfect queen for Mr. Mufasa. The stars themselves were vexing at the moment, as he had felt her bump against him. Gah, well, the moment was calming while it lasted. And, after all, he’d be sleeping until morning after this anyways. Oh woe is the king who has a mate whom desires running all the time. Here and there, back and forth… BAH. In any case, spending alone time was always such a blast.

As he stood, he shook his massive, trademark mane. The red flopping around wildly before returning to a more natural position. That fixated, smooth look. A nice clean look for a nice clean king. ”Ah, yes, a hunt. I just hope I can keep up…” Hurrying over towards her side, he gave a rather… cheeky grin. Oh the wonders of being taught by ones father the mysteries of the hunt. A treasure his younger brother never really got to experience… he never had the desire, and perhaps that might’ve been a bad decision on his part. Because of this training, Muffy had become a much better fighter. A wonderful perk to all of this. Her question had stopped his train of thought for only a moment... now... what indeed had happened today? "Well, to tell you the truth it was nothing very interesting. I found no intruders, no fighting within the pride, as far as I could tell... just simple things that happen from time to time." The great king shook his head and laughed a little at the thought of all of the useless squabbling that occurred between not only the pride members, but also the animals that lived in this territory. Just like his grandfather Mohatu, Mufasa knew all too well how fickle some of the beasts of the savannah could get. "The Wildabeast were fighting once again with the Giraffes, pointless squabble is all. An agreement was found shortly, though. Not much to worry over. So far... the weather is fine, but it is that time of year... as you know..."

Ahh, yes, the seasonal drying of the plains. Unfortunately, it could get rather bad around the pridelands if all of the animals who lived here did not work together to allow one another to survive properly. With all of the young cubs and pregnant mothers, he would need to keep a daily watch on all of the life in the area. No one could take more than their share, not even their wonderful little pride. Though, as he realized he had once again began to ramble(Due to the fact that he honestly had no one else to talk to during the day) Mafasa stopped. He began to trail behind her, watching for any signal that he might use to assist her in hunting... or some sort of input from his queen.

Every time during the dry season, things became tougher in the pride lands. With the lack of rain water falling from the sky most tempers grew increasingly short. This had to be the hardest time of the year for the King to relax or enjoy life. It also made her job a lot harder as well, as leader of the hunting party she was directly responsible for feeding the pride. When the grass grew short and stubby it was very hard to hide in, so the pride usually had to adjust their tactics. It was usually best during the dry season to hunt during the dusk and night time hours, the cover of darkness often helped them succeed in hunting. That and they sometimes went after much larger prey, such as the cape buffalo. How she hated stalking and killing those creatures, since usually each year someone was harmed. Shaking it off for now the beautiful Queen turned her pretty ruby eyes towards her equally handsome mate. Even after being together for so long, sometimes he still managed to take her breath away. Listening to the words that spilled from his lips she felt a smile creep across her mouth, if only for a moment.

“We go through this each dry season. Creatures start getting tight lipped about the food supply and water. Usually, the gods do not forsake this land, and rains fall again. You’re going to have to deal with a lot of that nonsense for quite awhile it seems.”

The dry season had barely begun and already animals were picking at one another. It was irritating. She sighed softly and continued to walk slightly ahead of her large mate. Most would fear a lion of his size, but she on the other paw, found him to be quite cuddly. Sarabi easily fell into hunter mode as she heard the all to familiar knickers and whinnies of the zebra herd. Going after a zebra took some skill and she certainly had those skills. Crouching into the still high grass the queen basically disappeared from view. Her attention fell onto the herd that was spread out before her, and her gaze only intensified as she waited. The males of the herd seemed to be squabbling with one another and that gave her the perfect opportunity to bring one down. Turning slightly she crept ever closer, and each time a head jerked up she froze in her steps.

Sarabi made it clear to the edge of the high grass and waited. She felt her breathing become heavier as the anticipation of the hunt grew in her belly. Ears flattened and tightened the stunning Queen leapt from the grass and bolted across the distance. The zebras had spotted her and she felt a low growl escape her, this hunt might fail! However the determination grew as she cleared the gap between them, and with a grunt she leapt forward to dig her claws and slam her weight into the stallions back. It would require Mufasa’s help though, since she was not able to swing around and bring the animal down on her own. Digging in to the flesh, the lioness held fast as she waited for her mate to come and finish the job she had started. It was a bonding experience after all.

The very thought of having to deal with this exact same problem for the rest of his kingly life(The great kings providing, of course, unless he was overthrown), year after year stepping in so that every animal of ever size would be able to get a fair chance in this world. Something he, personally, didn’t really think he should’ve had to do all the time. Were they not intelligent enough to listen to him once and take the things he had said to heart? Were the lions of this savannah really the only ones who were able to see that if they did all not work together in hard times, then they would all die together? It was… stressful, to say the least, but thankfully Mufasa was the king we all knew to this day. He loved his pride, and just as equally… every animal in his lands. Prey or not, he knew very well the value of it all, and he had his father to thank for that. His mother more so, perhaps, in the love department… but what was a son without his father? Ahadi may have not been the most caring of kings, but when taken into consideration that he himself was a rogue, he did pretty damn well. Changing himself that late in his life would’ve been difficult anyway, so this was something his chosen son did not hold against him… although he was rather upset at the way his brother had been treated. And, therefore… of course Mufasa had grounds of being wary of more than one son. He had never wanted to be a bad king, or a bad father, but what would happen if he really did? I mean, so much time around his father DID have many effects on him, things he now couldn’t help.

Following her lead closely, the large king’s ears perked up high, trying to follow her eyes to the best of his ability while concentrating on everything else as well. Multitasking was a king thing, folks. ”No matter how long I have to deal with such things, it will all work out, I know this. Things are all good now, I trust that I can most likely hold everything together for the rest of my reign. And, of course, Simba is getting older now, and he’ll soon learn that his judgement will always be tested. We’ll see what kind of king he’ll…” cut short as his mate took off like a bolt of lightning, the king followed to the best of his ability. Not particularly built for speed, he was, of course, a little late to the party. Those powerful jaws opening wide as he lunged with all the might he would need to throw the beast off balance. Gripping its neck with intense power(and most likely already breaking bones) he locked that powerful male jaw down tight. As the creature fell, he await death to grip it… and thus completing the Circle of life.

”-huff-… he’ll end up becoming.” With a smile, he finished his sentence, and looked over to his mate. Ahh, these were certainly bright days… even at night.

Sarabi only had to wait a few seconds before she saw the massive blur of her husband show up. As he slammed the zebra to the ground and held it in a death grip, the huntress stepped back and waited. Panting softly, she listened intently to his words about their son. Oh, how she loved Simba and wanted nothing more then for him to be happy. Though unlike her mate she heard the gossip that seemed to surround the younger members of the pride. Sometimes she heard the whispers of things that were concerning. Her son was rumored to be in a constant clash with another male in the pride. The lionesses spoke of how the two were constantly fighting and often it got extremely violent. She also heard even more seedy rumors about her beloved son’s love life. That he wasn’t -that- interested in Nala yet, and was often caught flirting with another lioness named Kula. It was worrisome and she was going to explain it all to her husband, since he needed to know. Perhaps he could talk with their son and see what was going on.

As the zebra finally passed on, she quietly settled herself in for dinner. They rarely got the chance to eat alone let alone speak of matters. Sarabi dug in with gusto her mouth tearing into the tender flesh of the horses rump. “Simba will make a good King if he can figure out what he wants. There are many rumors going around about our son Mufasa. Some of which will probably upset you deeply..” She stated softly, her eyes meeting his for a few moments before she swallowed another chunk of flesh. This wasn’t easy to talk about and sometimes she tended to snap at her friends for even mentioning her precious son in a negative light.

“From what I’ve heard Simba has been fighting with another young male known as Chumvi. These fights are very intense my beloved, and often one or both young males go away bloody.... I believe these fights are about females. It’s also been rumored that our son is not yet interested in Nala in a romantic light, and has his eyes set on a lioness known as Kula. However, this female is also coveted by the male he fights with...”

Finishing that mini speech the Queen went about feeding herself. Her thoughts going in a million different direction. It was terrible, how she worried. After some time the dusky lioness finished her meal and quietly back away from the zebra and waited for her mate to finish eating. As he ate she cleaned off her mouth and paws, making herself look more representable.

“We also need to speak of pride problems my dear...”

That lioness Zira was the problem. She was constantly undermining Sarabi’s authority and constantly ruined hunts. The pride had taken in Zira and her two sisters when their mother died. The younger two were doing alright but Zira was not like them at all. Some even said she was like a feminine form of Scar. Her ears folded back and a sad look crossed her pretty face. If things did not improve then the family would have to be exiled.. And that was something that had never happened to Sarabi before.

Finally letting his grip go of the neck, Mufasa say to give himself a little bit of a breather. As said before, he wasn’t really built for these sorts of things… though he did them well enough. With kills such as these, with no others around, he would always wait. While his right as the king was that he might take as much as he would like of whatever part of the animal, and be the first to eat, he really hadn’t ever put such things into play. So, of course, he allowed her to eat, and speak as freely and for as long as she had wished. After all, she was his queen… and because of this, he listened to her completely and without distraction. So intently awaiting what seemed to be looming on her mind. Such suspense killed him on the inside, it really had. Nothing was worse than not knowing the workings of even his own pride. Pah… some king he had been.

As she had spoken of their son… Mufasa seemed disheartened. She… was right, he was deeply upset over even such small words she had begun to speak. Disappointed, sure, perhaps a little… after all a prince should never act in such ways that would upset the pride he would someday rule over. But… perhaps even more so that he had harmed his own pride member over something so trivial. And… over Kula? Had Nala not been the one to steal away his heart? The king felt… useless at this moment. Why had HE not heard of such things until just now…he should’ve been doing a better job of ruling over his pride, that was for sure. ”Sarabi.. I… have not heard of such things before. This is of course, no way for someone such as our son to be acting. I’ll speak to them, all three of them next chance I get, I promise you this… and I will put an end to such behavior.” Perhaps there was a small hint of anger in the kings voice… though, it was not directed towards any of those involved. After all, Mufasa should have been able to solve such problems before they were allowed to escalade to such heights.

Finally taking advantage at the break in speech, the king drove his large teeth into the meat of the dead beast before him. Tearing away a little quicker than might have been considered regal with the power of those jowels. He was a king, not a neat little birdy searching for seeds, after all. The words of his queen, however, had struck him as a little odd. Immediately looking over to her as she spoke of pride problems. So… he had missed even more? This was… disgusting. ”Problems, you say? … this wouldn’t have to do with my brother, would it?” The thoughts of Scar had always polluted the kings mind, so much worry surrounded his sibling, and for some reason he could never stop loving, and trusting the skinny lion. He had always hoped their bond was still as strong as he thought it was… and perhaps that his trust was not ill placed…
